What is Restylane-L®?
Restylane-L® is an excellent hyaluronic acid option in the world of dermal fillers used to treat fine lines, wrinkles, and volume replacement giving gratifying results 10–14 months post injection. While there are many options in the filler family certain products are used in specific areas not only due to FDA approval but also due to physician preference. At River Region Facial Plastics our favorite treatment for Restylane-L® is in the tear trough area of the eyes.
We frequently hear complaints of “tired eyes” or “dark circles” under the eyes. With the use of a blunt tip cannula Restylane-L® provides immediate gratification to reduce the appearance of tired eyes and dark circles by refilling the area of volume loss.
No preparation is necessary to have a Restylane-L® treatment such as allergy testing due to the fact that hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body. HA fillers are not recommended for patients with severe allergies or a history of anaphylaxis.
The risk of bruising or bleeding may be increased by medications with anticoagulant effects, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g. Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Celebrex), high doses of Vitamin E, and certain herbs (Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wart).
The safety of HA fillers in pregnant or breast-feeding women has not been established, and is therefore not recommended for these women.
You can expect temporary minimal swelling under the eye where treated and bruising is minimal, if at all. Post injection swelling and bruising generally resolves within 48 hours post injection. Icing may be effective to expedite the recovery process. Cosmetics may be applied immediately after treatment and we encourage our clients not to massage the area after their treatment.
